A group of national welfare, union, research and environment organisations is lobbying the Federal Government to do more to create clean, green jobs.

The Southern Cross Climate Coalition has launched a media campaign calling for the end of the dinosaurs in business and politics blocking the creation of new clean energy jobs.

A large dinosaur puppet walked across the lawns outside Parliament House to highlight the group's claim that fossil fuels will be extinct in future.

Spokesman John Connor says it is time for the political stalling to stop and for real action to build sustainable jobs.

The group will show dinosaur television advertisements on pay TV.

ACTU President Sharan Burrow also says Australia needs to get serious about investing in a low-carbon economy and creating sustainable jobs.

The union boss is also lobbying the Federal Government to do more about reducing climate change.

Ms Burrow says combating climate change does not mean jobs have to be lost in Australia.

"Investing in a low carbon economy is critical if Australia is not to be left behind," she said.

"We know that there will be self-appointed dinosaurs who will try to run that fear campaign that jobs will be lost in in Australia. But the opposite is true."
