Japan has launched the world's first satellite dedicated to monitoring global greenhouse gas emissions, as part of efforts to tackle climate change.
The project will enable scientists to measure the quantities of greenhouse gases being released around the world and where exactly they are coming from.
The United States is expected to launch a similar satellite next month, but its main focus will be on measuring the amount of carbon dioxide being absorbed by the world's oceans and forests.
